The winning images of the Portrait of America contest are featured in this soft cover book.
The National Portrait of America photography project is pleased to announce the winning entries of its first annual photography competition. The winner of the Gold Prize for Most Outstanding Entry, Single or Series, is Greg Boozell.
“I am humbled by the level of talent and the diversity and caliber of the images that were submitted,” said Chris Davies, founder of the Portrait of America Awards. “Greg Boozell’s winning image, Flag Disposal, (burning of the flag) most definitely reflects the current realities defining our country.
Winners of the Silver Prize for Exceptional Bodies of Work – Single or Series are: Cindy Bendat, Leland Bobbe, Michele Castagnetti, Richard Cavagnolo, Carla Cioffi, James Dickens, Amy Elkins, Susan Goldstein, Bill Gubbins, Crummy Gummy, Christopher Gutierrez, Karisha Hickman, Armineh Hovanesian, Judi Iranyi, M. Scott Johnson, Yuta Kato, Nancy Kaye, Chris Little, Antonio Martinez, Maggie Meiners, Janice Milhem, Sandro Miller, Raquel Natalicchio, Michael Penney, Joshua Sariñana, Sam Scoggins, Denis Sivack, John Waiblinger, Ken Weingart and Rebecca Wilkowski.
The jurors for Portrait of America were: Judy Keller, Formerly Senior Curator of Photographs, The Getty Museum; Shaune Lakin, Senior Curator of Photography, National Gallery of Australia; Phillip Prodger, Formerly Head of Photographs, National Portrait Gallery, London and Deborah Willis, University Professor and Chair of the Department of Photography & Imaging, Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
